Kirkland, one of the most renowned and talented celebrity photographers of this century, began his journey at age twenty-four, when he was hired as a staff photographer for Look magazine. Kirkland became famous for his iconic 1961 photos of Marilyn Monroe taken for Look's 25th anniversary. Throughout his career, a Who's Who of notable persons have posed for Kirkland from the great photography innovator Man Ray and photographer/painter Jacques Henri Lartigue to Dr. Stephen Hawking. Entertainment celebrities he has photographed include Mick Jagger, Sting, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Morgan Freeman, Orson Welles, Andy Warhol, Oliver Stone, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Leonardo DiCaprio, Coco Chanel, Marlene Dietrich, Brigitte Bardot, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve and Diana Ross. Kirkland's portrait of Charlie Chaplin is at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Kirkland is contracted for work around the world and has worked in the motion picture industry as a special photographer on more than one hundred films. www.douglaskirkland.com Final Portfolio ReviewTuesday, June 1st – Friday, June 18thThe Year-end Portfolio Review process is the culmination of a student's 10-month professional photography training at Hallmark. During the Portfolio Review process, a review panel made up of working professional photographers will critically analyze each individual student portfolio to determine whether or not it possesses the necessary technical and artistic skills to qualify the student for employment in the field of professional photography and imaging. Each student will receive in-depth commentary from the panelists as to the areas of strength and weakness represented in his or her portfolio. Upon successful completion of the year-end portfolio process, the student qualifies for a Certificate of Completion from Hallmark. The Class of 2010 is honored to have three powerful industry leaders reviewing and critiquing their final year-end portfolio. Each panelist specializes in a different area of professional photography, and their collected experiences and knowledge are unrivaled. Brian Lanker is a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist. His work for LIFE Magazine and Sports Illustrated has received numerous international awards. Lanker is perhaps best known for his book and exhibition of portraits entitled, "I Dream A World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America." The debut exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. set attendance records for the 111 year old museum in the nation's capital. The book is in its 14th printing. Lanker's greatest personal honor was being selected and featured in "Images of Man," an audio/visual educational program, along with W. Eugene Smith, Henry Cartier Bresson and Elliott Porter. He recently directed his first documentary film, "They Drew Fire: Combat Artists of WWII," a highly acclaimed PBS prime time program. Lanker continues to pursue editorial and advertising photography as well as film direction. Grant Peterson is a commercial still life photographer who, in three decades of work, left his mark on virtually every aspect of photography. Peterson's uses of light, color, design and printing has influenced a generation of photographers, filmmakers and artists, and was pivotal to the development of advertising's use of a personal vision to sell a brand. In 1989, Photo District News crowned him "The Sun King". In January 2002, "WTC," a show on the design, build, and destruction of the World Trade Center was held at the New York Historical Society. Paul Goldberger of The New York Times called Peterson's images "epic." Peterson currently works and lives in New York City with his wife and daughter. Ken Whitmire is a master portrait photographer with immeasurable experience and knowledge in the industry. Since he opened his studio in Yakima in 1956, he perfected the art of portrait photography. Whitmire was one of the first photographers in the country to practice and master the technique of printing photographs on canvas. Whitmire has been awarded over 100 major photographic trophies, and holds the Professional Photographers of America Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman Degrees, and was the 25th recipient of the American Society of Photographers Fellowship Degree. He was awarded the Eastman Kodak National Academy Awards Grand Prize in 1970. In January of 2009 he was honored with the Professional Photographers of America Gerhard Bakker National Education award, given for outstanding service in continuing education. A popular week-long "Wall Portrait Conference" is conducted annually on his studio grounds in Yakima by Ken and his associates. It is known nationwide as "The Wall Portrait School." This event is open only to family members and supporters of the Class of 2010, alumni, members of the photographic profession, and applicants and enrollees of the Class of 2011. For twenty years she covered the experimental dance scene for the Village Voice. In 1982, she decided to open a studio where she could not only control the lighting, but could also direct the dancers in her exploration of movement's expressive potential. Her unique approach to photographing the human form in motion has radically redefined the genre, and influenced a generation of young photographers.
