Representative Hurd Spoke at Hallmark University’s Spring Graduation Ceremony
Hallmark University held its Spring 2019 Commencement Ceremony on May 18th, 2019 at Parkhills Baptist Church. To commemorate the occasion, United States House of Representatives member William Hurd was invited to attend and speak at the ceremony in front of a crowd of the newest group of graduates and their families.
Representative Hurd’s impactful work in cybersecurity and education are essential to Hallmark University’s objectives and initiatives and are in line with the institution’s mission in higher education. President and CEO of Hallmark University Joe Fisher initially met the Representative at a World Affairs Council in 2012 and has supported his initiatives in Congress since.
“What I have admired most about Representative Hurd in the years since we met is that he is exactly who he promised he would be,” said Joe Fisher, President, and CEO of Hallmark University. “Regardless of the political winds, Will has truly been the Representative of the people in his district. This requires compassion, intelligence, integrity, and above all, courage. This is how Representative Hurd aligns with Hallmark University.”
At the Spring 2019 Commencement Ceremony, Representative Hurd congratulated the newest graduates on completing their journey in higher education, and also issued them a challenge. The Representative shared how the United States has become great not by what it has taken, but by what it has given. He challenged the graduates to measure their successes in life, not by what they take or receive, but by what they provide to others. His challenge to the newest group of Hallmark Alumni is aligned with Hallmark Character, by challenging students, faculty, and staff to live a life that flows outward, and not inward.
