Today, we celebrate a remarkable achievement in nursing education as Dr. Ruth Oliver steps into the role of Dean of Nursing at Hallmark University. With her wealth of experience, passion for nursing, and vision for the future of healthcare education, Dr. Oliver promises to lead with distinction and inspire the next generation of nursing professionals.
Dr. Oliver began her nursing career in Detroit, Michigan, obtaining a BSN at Mercy College, now the University of Detroit/Mercy. As a bedside nurse, she worked primarily in step-down inpatient units in Michigan, Illinois, and San Diego. She obtained a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from San Diego State University and was a manager for medical and orthopedic units. She had a 22-year career with Sharp Healthcare, working as a staff nurse, charge nurse, manager, heart failure case manager, and an IT education specialist focused on patient acuity. During her time in California, undergraduate nursing education became her passion. She worked in adjunct and full-time positions with Southwestern CC and Point Loma Nazarene University. After moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2015, she worked in hospital settings as a clinical educator and again adjunct with the local community college. She finished her DNP in New Mexico; her project assessed the use of evidence-based practice in leadership. Drawn to the Texas Hill Country, she began her career in academia in January of 2022 in Kerrville, and by God’s design, she is now the Dean at Hallmark University in San Antonio.
