Hallmark University Provides Volunteers and Resources for Local Emergency Exercises
Hallmark University’s School of Allied Health and College of Aeronautics have teamed up with the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) to bolster local emergency preparedness via STRAC’s annually held mass casualties exercise. Recently, groups of emergency responders including members from the San Antonio Fire Department, San Antonio Police Department, local hospitals, EMS responders, and the San Antonio Airport all assembled at the San Antonio International Airport for a picture to commemorate the teamwork and widespread participation involved in staging the exercise.
STRAC’s mass casualty exercise is designed to test the readiness of local emergency responders in a multitude of disastrous situations. Through this annual exercise, STRAC is able to assess the effectiveness of current emergency response plans and detect any necessary improvements that need to be implemented.
To supplement the exercise, Hallmark students and faculty have previously volunteered as mock triage patients in need of emergency medical care for wounds derived from a mock catastrophe. Additionally, Hallmark’s 727 aircraft has been used to stage a plane crash that requires an immense and swift emergency response. This year’s mass casualty exercise will take place on October 18th, and Hallmark University will once again provide volunteers and resources.
