4 Different Nursing Career Paths for BSN Graduates

Have you ever asked aloud, “What jobs can I get with a nursing degree?” or “What are the different nursing career paths I could take?”

Once you’ve graduated with your BSN and passed the NCLEX exam, much like our past two BSN Cohorts who have achieved a 100% NCLEX pass rate, you’ll find a lot of options for your upcoming career.

What your pathway through the world of nursing looks like in San Antonio entirely up to you, but below are 4 different nursing career paths open to nurses holding a BSN.

Registered Nurse – Specialties

A Registered Nurse administers hands-on patient care in a variety of settings including hospitals, medical offices, nursing homes, the Intensive Care Unit and more. A career path as a Registered Nurse offers an insane variety of options as there are an incredible number of specialties for one to focus on, such as:

  • Pediatric Nurse
  • Intensive Care Unit Nurse
  • Labor and Delivery Nurse
  • Surgical Nurse
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse
  • Hospice Nurse

These are common entry points for graduating nursing students who are looking to kick-off their career and give every opportunity for someone to enter a specialty that they care about.

Nurse Manager

A Nurse Manager is responsible for supervising a nursing unit in a hospital or clinic. They provide direction to nursing staff, give oversight to patient care, and are responsible for the overall operations of a nursing unit. Managers typically work as a Registered Nurse before moving into this position and must be prepared to focus on supporting and empowering the entire department.

Fortunately for Nurses with a BSN, their undergraduate education trained them to lead patient care and prepared them for a career path in leadership.

Nursing Director

The next rung in the nursing career ladder is that of a Nursing Director. While a managerial role oversees floor operations of a hospital, a Nursing Director is directly involved in the overall management and administration of the healthcare facility.

Like most jobs with “Director” in the title, this nursing career path typically requires a Master in Business Administration, such as those offered by Hallmark University, to learn more about business and how to strategize for the facility’s future.

Not feeling like a shift into business leadership is for you? Not to worry, as different nursing career pathways will keep you feeling fulfilled while utilizing your experience and education.

Nursing Instructor

Returning to where it all began with the moment you launched into your BSN program; Nursing Instructors bring all their years of experience into the classroom and share their days with nursing students. You will pass along your passion for nursing to a new generation of nurses and make an impact on the lives of every patient your students encounter in their careers.

Your Nursing Career Pathways

The variety of nursing career paths is just one of the many reasons why nursing is known as an incredibly rewarding career. If you feel a career in nursing is right for you, learn how you can earn your BSN in less than three years from Hallmark University today.
