Four Aviation Students have been chosen for Apprenticeships for Textron Aviation

Four aviation students were congratulated this week for being chosen for their apprenticeship with Textron Aviation during an awards ceremony at Hallmark University’s College of Aeronautics. These students will spend four months at Textron’s service center at the San Antonio International Airport where they will receive on-the-job training with experienced A&P mechanics.

Textron Aviation understands the need for bringing in new talent for their service centers, as many A&P mechanics are approaching retirement age. The apprenticeship program with Hallmark University allows for a pipeline of new and experienced aviation mechanics to train and become specialized in Textron Aviation’s service needs. Students selected for this program are first filtered by Hallmark University’s staff after an evaluation of their school academic performance and are subsequently personally interviewed and selected by Textron Aviation’s general and maintenance manager.

“You can tell when it’s a Hallmark graduate,” said Chris Provencio, the General Manager for Textron Aviation’s San Antonio Service Center. “You may not know initially, but after digging a little deeper into their background: either by their position, quality of their work, or their personality, most of them come from Hallmark University.”

The four students that were chosen are actively enrolled in the College of Aeronautics Airframe and Powerplant program. These students will receive on-the-job training while completing a training curriculum developed by Textron Aviation which includes working on shop procedures, safety and quality best practices, and comprehensive maintenance on Citation and King Aircraft. Textron Aviation has eleven service centers which provide students with opportunities to work at other locations throughout the United States.

“This is probably the best opportunity that I’ve had in a while,” said Kevin Sy, one of the students chosen for the apprenticeship. “Especially since this is going to be my career and not just a job. A lot of the technicians at Textron Aviation say it’s a great company to work for and a lot of them are from Hallmark from years ago when Hallmark was still at the Stinson Airport.”
